Hormone care

Starting HRT? Know what happens after the prescription.

The prescription is one part of the decision. Knowing what to report, when to check in and how to get help can make the next part feel less uncertain.

The short answer

Follow-up should review your symptoms, side effects and whether treatment still fits your needs. Use your own prescription instructions, keep your clinician informed and agree on a review plan. There is no universal week-by-week result to expect.

Leave with instructions you understand

Know the medication name, prescribed amount, how to use it and who to contact with questions. Ask for written instructions and clarify missed-dose advice for your exact prescription. Do not borrow directions from another person's treatment or a different hormone product.

Keep an updated list of medicines and supplements. Tell the prescriber about new treatments or planned procedures that could affect your care.

Track what matters to your daily life

Choose a few concerns to describe consistently, such as disrupted nights or symptoms interrupting work. Note what improves, what persists and anything new. These notes support a conversation; they are not a score you must improve on schedule.

Headaches, breast tenderness, nausea or bleeding can occur with HRT. Similar symptoms can have other explanations. Report troublesome changes rather than deciding on your own that they prove the treatment is working—or failing.

Agree on how follow-up will work

Ask when your next review should happen, how to raise a nonurgent question and what needs an appointment. If instructions or next steps are unclear, contact the care team. Follow-up may involve another visit, testing or a referral.

With Soha, an OB/GYN evaluates each patient and prescribes when appropriate. Active subscribers have unlimited messaging with their OB/GYN. Send nonurgent questions as they come up and discuss the next steps with your care team.

Discuss changes before making them

Take treatment as prescribed. Do not increase the amount or change the schedule to chase faster results. Tell your clinician about side effects or difficulty following the routine; they can review whether a different plan is appropriate.

Report unexpected vaginal bleeding promptly rather than assuming it is an adjustment. Follow the instructions for your specific prescription and seek medical advice when you are unsure.

Some symptoms cannot wait for a message

Call 911 for sudden trouble speaking, one-sided weakness or facial drooping. New chest pain, sudden breathing difficulty or coughing up blood needs emergency medical help. Do not wait for a portal reply.

Seek prompt medical assessment for new swelling, pain, warmth or redness in one leg. These symptoms require evaluation even if you are uncertain whether treatment is involved.

Questions you may still have

Should I change my dose if symptoms continue?

Discuss the symptoms and your current instructions with the prescriber. Do not change the amount or frequency yourself to try to speed up improvement.

What if I forgot to ask something during the visit?

Write the question down and contact the care team through its designated nonurgent channel. Ask whether it needs a message, a visit or another type of assessment.
